Plantmade’s Plant-Based Hair Growth Products Making Millions

Hello,
In the final installment of the business breakdowns for the UK Black History Month, we’re going to cover wellness product company Plantmade.
Plantmade
What
Plantmade was founded in 2020 by Ama Amo-Agyei. Originally named Planted, the company was started after Ama lost her job at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic. Opting to take the entrepreneurial path, Ama started the company with hand-made plant-based beard and hair growth products at home.
With the support of Ama’s mother, the business was selling 1000s of units before the end of its first year. Today, Plantmade is one of the fastest-growing wellness brands in the UK and according to its online channels has over 50,000 customers globally.
Why
Product-first
Ama’s first product to aid hair growth was something she created for herself after years of suffering from hair loss and breakage. After seeing positive results in less than two weeks and encouraged by her mum she decided to try to sell her product. In the first 10 days of sharing online she was selling her new product, Ama turned £100 investment into £1000.
From the beginning, Plantmade has benefitted from real-life customer stories including before and after videos and photos. Many customers report visible improvements in the thickness and overall health of their hair after consistent use. These positive results encourage repeat purchases and drive word-of-mouth recommendations.
“Let’s say for shampoos, a lot of shampoos are like 85%, 90% water. So, that is the maximum you’re going to get from the product. You’re not utilizing a lot of the ingredients because they’re quite diluted and, similar to oils, there’d be sometimes random things that don’t need to be in there that are in there just to make it kind of mass production a little bit cheaper. So, I decided to focus on quality and also interesting different ingredients”.
While we live in a world of brands competing for great content, a quality product will eventually find its customer base. Despite such fast growth and success, today Plantmade still offers a 90-day guarantee or your money back for its hero product - hair and beard oil.
Inclusive Community
“I had seen countless images on my social media feed about Plantmade”
Plantmade has always focused on being a brand that makes products for all types of hair and skin types. This has allowed Plantmade’s messaging to remain product-focused and its brand to appeal to all genders, races, and geographies. Influencers and beauty enthusiasts frequently share their success stories with plant-made hair growth solutions, generating buzz and curiosity among their followers. These personal endorsements helped generate more awareness for Plantmade products.
Rising Demand for Eco-Conscious Beauty
While outside of Plantmade’s control, the timing for the business to enter the market has been right. The beauty industry has seen a surge in eco-conscious consumers who prioritize sustainability and animal welfare. Plant-made hair growth products often boast cruelty-free and vegan certifications, making them appealing to individuals looking to support brands with strong ethical values.
